Ceroc Dunedin News and Events March 29th 08
Hi Everyone,
The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 2-3 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide. In relation to the new spam regulations, we at Ceroc Dunedin assume that by providing us with your email addresses you are then giving us permission to send this newsletter. If you would rather not receive our news letter, then please reply with the word 'Unsubscribe' in the subject line. We will do our best to remove you from the database, however occasionally there are multiple entries and it may take a little while to find them all. Thank you for your patience.
A big thank you to everyone that attended the Masquerade Ball on the 15th. You all looked fantastic! It was great to see everyone dressed so well! Also thank you to all that danced with us at the Go Otago day celebrations at Mosgiel. There was a great photo of Tony and Hannah strutting their stuff in the Otago Daily Times on Tuesday, well done guys!
The calendar at Ceroc seems to be filling very quickly. Please read on for details of all the great events that are coming up.
Please note that the workshops that would normally be held on the same day as the dance party have been postponed one week and will now be held on the 5th of April.
We have our "Last Saturday of the month" Dance Party this Saturday night at the South Dunedin Community Hall.
Finally, one of our female dancers is missing a pair of white flat shoes in a Jackie Brazil bag (looks like a shoe bag). They were removed from the Burns Hall after class last Thursday night, the 20th of March, If you have seen these shoes please contact me.

On Staurday the 29rd we are planning to run our very popular Beginner to Intro-mediate 'Stepping-Up' workshop and in preparation for the upcoming South Island Champs an 'Intermediate Performance Style and Technique' workshop.
12.30pm – 3.00pm:
'Stepping – Up'
Technique Workshop
This popular workshop will briefly cover the core beginner moves that you need to know at intro-mediate level, details on leading and following, arm tension, floor craft, spinning, being aware of other people on the dance floor and an introduction to the basic intermediate moves that form the core of our intro-mediate routines. This will include an introduction to our basic "dip" to help make learning these moves fun and safe in a normal class situation.
If you are considering attending Intro-mediate classes then this workshop should not be missed!
The intro-mediate and intermediate classes move faster than the beginner class and cover six moves instead of four. Knowing the basics well will enable you to learn the more technical intermediate moves faster and in turn allow you to dance them safer and with a lot more enjoyment.
3.15pm – 5.15pm:
Intermediate Performance
Style and Technique
Workshop
Competition dancing is a little different to normal freestyle dancing. In this workshop we will be giving tips and guidance to dancing in competitions, and be covering some key style and technique tips to really help your dancing shine on the day!
This workshop will be aimed at Intermediate level dancers, but will be open to all levels. It will be fine for you to register WITH your competition partner and do the workshop with that partner if you wish. The rest of the people in the workshop will be rotating partners as usual.
These workshops are $25.00 each or $40.00 for both.
Please register for these workshops with Tom in class or email me.

Balclutha Classes
– Now running
Classes have resumed at the No Mean Feet dance studio in the main street of Balclutha on Friday evenings. We have now introduced an Intro-Mediate class on a Friday night.
The timetable will is:
Beginners Class: 7.00pm – 7.45pm
Freestyle dance time: 7.45pm – 8.15pm
Intro-mediate Class: 8.15pm – 9.00pm
Freestyle dance time: 9.00pm – 9.30pm
Please note that the beginner class will be shortened slightly to 45 minutes to allow the addition of the second class and maintain some freestyle dance time. The class format will remain the same.
As a guide you should have completed between 10 and 20 beginner classes before moving up to the Intro-Mediate level. It is always a good idea to talk with the instructor before you attend this class to ensure your safety and the safety of the others in the class.

Ceroc French Jive celebrates 20 years in New Zealand this year.
In 1988 Angelique Meyer took on teaching Ceroc in NZ after a dare from her brother.
There are now 29 Ceroc clubs across the country from Whangarei to
Invercargill.
Ceroc French Jive is a fusion of American Jitterbug with the French
Boogie Français, the result: a stylish easy to learn social dance phenomenon. The
name Ceroc is an abbreviation from the French 'c'est le rock', shorthand for lets boogie!
Ceroc French Jive works its charms on almost everyone, even those with two
left feet find they can make good progress. And it is becoming popular to do
a little 'c'est le rock' for your wedding dance.
"Even after twenty years of dancing, I still haven't tired of this dance, every time it
wakes me up, makes me feel good, its my natural pick me up" say Meyer,
"and sometimes dancing is so peaceful, so centered, its almost a Zen experience".
You can join les Cerocers for a night of celebration and if you are a veteran
Cerocer, you are invited to bring your photographs and relive some memories.
Sumptuous Prizes, Belle of the Ball, Entertainment, DJs, Buffet Meal, Cash

Quotes for the week
"Dance is passion, it is speechless, it is the soul of life itself."
~Lisa Roma~
It is also just good fun! ~John~
The language of movement requires no words - neither for its expression, nor for its understanding.
Without uttering a syllable, the vocabulary of dance speaks directly to the senses, seducing the heart and securing the soul.
~ Royal NZ Ballet ~
Kind Regards
Katie, John, Monique, Brent, and the Ceroc crew :-)
