Ceroc Dunedin News Letter - Classes as usual on Waitangi Day
Hi Everyone,
The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 2-3 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide. In relation to the new spam regulations, we at Ceroc Dunedin assume that by providing us with your email addresses you are then giving us permission to send this newsletter. If you would rather not receive our news letter, then please reply with the word 'Unsubscribe' in the subject line. We will do our best to remove you from the database, however occasionally there are multiple entries and it may take a little while to find them all. Thank you for your patience.
Hi Everyone
Well our year has certainly started off at a cracking pace with lots of people attending both Wednesday and Thursday night classes. A bonus this week has been the New Zealand Masters games that are being held here in Dunedin. Each night at the games headquarters, aka 'The Tent', there have been bands and entertainment providing an excellent opportunity to dance EVERY NIGHT! This is being held on the Union lawn at Otago University.
Classes will run as normal tomorrow night. However we will shorten the freestyle session to just one hour so that we can head down to 'The Tent' and dance to the live music at the Uni.
Classes will resume this Friday the 8th of Feb in Balclutha, please see below for changes to class times.
Ceroc received extra exposure on Saturday through John and Rachel who placed first in the Unregistered Show Dance section at the ACC New Zealand Masters Games. This annual Dancesport competition has recently seen Ceroc as a welcome addition to its Ballroom, Latin American, Old time and New Vogue dance forms. The audience was very excited by the Ceroc performance. Elly-Ann Pritchard, part owner and Ceroc teacher for Ceroc Stars Kapi-Hutt has judged at this event for the past several years and with her help it looks as though Ceroc will be welcomed into this Competition on a much larger scale in the future!
The Ceroc Dunedin Annual Masquerade Ball tickets have proved to be very popular! There has been some great interest from out of town dancers and several tickets have already been purchased by ChCh and Wellington dancers. I recommend that you not wait too long before booking your ticket as almost half have already gone. Tickets will be at classes this week, or you can email me to reserve a ticket if you cannot make a class. Please see below for details of the night and extra events that are planned for the weekend.
Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to fill in our questionnaire. We are working through the responses and already have some excellent suggestions to follow up on. If you still have a questionnaire it can be dropped into the confidential box in front of the stage at class this week.

Larnach Castle
Larnach Castle was built from 1871, a neo gothic colonial showplace, a dream home for William Larnach's beloved wife Eliza. No expense was spared in creating this beautiful building and the finest materials and craftsmen from all over the world were employed to decorate this wonderful Victorian Castle.
Larnach Castle is an award winning attraction and the Larnach Castle Gardens one of New Zealand's top gardens , awarded a "Garden of National Significance" rating by the New Zealand Gardens Trust. The beautiful gardens offer many gorgeous places to take photographs. A splendid memory of the evening is a photograph of all the guests on the front steps of Larnach Castle.
The historic Ballroom was built for Larnach's favourite daughter Kate's 21st birthday; this room is spectacular and has a fantastic polished timber floor.

Quotes for the week
"On with the dance! Let joy be unconfined."
~ Lord Byron ~
The language of movement requires no words - neither for its expression, nor for its understanding.
Without uttering a syllable, the vocabulary of dance speaks directly to the senses, seducing the heart and securing the soul.
~ Royal NZ Ballet ~
Kind Regards
John, Monique, Rachel, Brent, Katie and the Ceroc crew :-)
