Special Ceroc News Letter - Short Notice Workshop and Dance Party THIS weekend!
Hi Everyone,
The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 2-3 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide.
Firstly, for those that have visited the Ceroc NZ web site lately you will have noticed that the Dunedin link is displaying 'Last Years' timetable. Please disregard any notices of change in venue for Thursday nights. That was for LAST YEAR. So far we have not been notified of any need to change class venue from the Burns Hall in 2007.
Big news! One of New Zealand 's best male dancers is visiting Dunedin THIS weekend. Vanroe Stone and his dance partner Naomi Hall placed third in the Advanced A Freestyle section at the recent Ceroc Champs in Auckland behind two Australian couples, which ranks them as Ceroc New Zealand's number 1 advanced couple. Vanroe, who is visiting on his own, has agreed to teach a two hour workshop on Saturday afternoon from 2.00pm – 4.00pm at the St John's Church Hall in Roslyn. Details are below.
As this is a special occasion we have decided to reinstate the "First Saturday of the Month" dance party that was cancelled due to competing events that night. I have details of our Dance party as well as the other events in Wanaka and Milton below.
It is with regret that I have decided to cancel the Monday night classes for the time being. Unfortunately participant numbers have been dwindling steadily since the inception of the Intermediate Plus class. We are in the throes of formulating another format for future classes as we realize that there is a demand for these classes, but clearly the current format is not working very well.
A HUGE thank you to all who travelled down to Invercargill from Dunedin, and to all those Invercargill dancers that joined us for the 'Dance Your Southern Sox Off' Dance marathon in Invercargill on Saturday the 30th of June – organized by Venture Southland. It was a very successful day and showcased some of the fantastic talent and resources available within the Southland Dance community. Ceroc was VERY well received and proved to be a highlight of the day for many.

7th of July Events, The Milton Ball in Milton and Adam's (Ceroc Wellington) Musical Interpretaion workshop and dance party in Wanaka
The Milton Ball
Is on again! Last year we had a lot of fun at this great event. Once again there will be a very good live band pumping out some great 'very danceable' music. Ceroc will not be doing a specific demonstration this year, but we have been specifically invited back as we provided some awesome entertainment for those that were not dancing.
Tickets need to be reserved in ADVANCED and will be available to be picked up at the door on the night. Details are at class, or let me (John) know and I will reserve them for you.
Musical Interpretaion Workshop and Dance Party in Wanaka
Adam Nathanson & Mandy Britnell's Workshop – Musical Interpretation #2!
Level: All Levels .
Dancing is not just about performing a set of moves, it is about moving to the music in a way that follows all the highs, lows, little twiddly bits and dramatic changes. Learn how to interpret specific tracks while you are dancing, what to do with the starting and ending parts of the music and what moves to use, how to change the pace of your dancing throughout a piece of music and recognise breaks and accents. The workshop is not too technical, easy to follow and very user friendly. It is appropriate for dancers who can freestyle competently and wish to add more style and pizzaz to their freestyle dancing.
Phil's Party at the Barn! 7th June
Phil Marsden from Wanaka has kindly offered to host a party for Ceroc at his place, The Barn, after Adam and Mandy's workshop on Saturday 7th July.
GOT A BED ? - Wanaka-ites - if you have a bed available for a visiting Cerocer please let Phil know.
NEED A BED ? – Contact Phil and either he'll put you in contact with someone who has offered a bed, or, there are a few spare beds/mattresses at the Barn so bring your sleeping bag or if you are feeling particularly brave there is plenty of space to pitch a tent! I'd take a good sleeping bag and a hot water bottle if I were you!
Please bring a plate of food for a pot luck dinner & give Phil a hug for hosting this party

Ceroc Christchurch social weekend in Hanmer Springs – September 8th and 9th 2007
This great weekend is on again! Last year quite a large group of Dunedinites joined a very large group from ChCh in Hanmer Springs for a weekend or fun and (mainly) relaxation! We hired holiday homes and enjoyed many of the activities that Hanmer has to offer. These included mountain biking, bush walks, Golf and of course, the therapeutic hot springs! We also had a dance party on the Saturday night, 'cause we just couldn't help ourselves!! J

Quote for the week
"To shake your rump is to be environmentally aware."
~David Byrne~
The language of movement requires no words - neither for its expression, nor for its understanding.
Without uttering a syllable, the vocabulary of dance speaks directly to the senses, seducing the heart and securing the soul.
