Ceroc Dance Dunedin News Letter May 22nd '07

Hi Everyone,


The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 2-3 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide.



A huge WELL DONE to all the Dunedin dancers that trained, practiced and competed in Auckland in the National Ceroc Champs on the 12th of May. The level of the competition was very high! They all did very well with 4 couples making it through to the semi finals of the freestyle. Our doubles team performing 'Fever' came away with a second placing of which we were all very excited about. We would like to thank everyone for your support, good wishes and patience. You will be pleased to know that your freestyle time is back to normal!



A quick reminder that we begin teaching the original 'Fever' routine tonight, Tuesday the 22nd, at Mojo's Hall, 219 Leith St from 8.30-9.30pm. Please come along even if you do not have a partner.



Many of you may remember Steve Lampert, he is a UK based Ceroc teacher who taught a fantastic 'Blues" workshop for us last year. Great news, Steve is returning to Dunedin and will be teaching workshops on the weekend of Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of June. Details are being finalized now. We will let you know times and workshop topics very soon.




Finally, this Saturday we have two dance events to choose from. Firstly Emma is teaching her Express Yourself workshop in Queenstown (detailed below) followed with a dance party and there is a '70s dance party this Saturday night at the Dunedin Convention Centre (formally the Metropolitan Club). Several Ceroc dancers attended a '60's dance party at the same venue last week and had a great time. This is a great venue with a terrific dance floor and a very good live band playing very 'Cerocable" music – Check it out if you are not going to Queenstown. 8pm – midnight, $10 door charge.

Routine Class is about to begin teaching the Original "Fever" routine.



We will be starting our 'Fever' routine class on Tuesday the 22nd of May at Mojo's 219 Leith St from 8.30pm – 10.00pm. If you are interested in learning this fun Beginner – Intro-Mediate routine, please let either Monique or John know. We would prefer you to learn the routine 'With' a partner, however if you do not have a partner please let us know as we will allow part of the room to rotate and change partners. We DO have some individual people coming along that are looking for someone to dance this routine with, so don't be shy, this is a great opportunity to improve your dancing and especially work on timing.



There will still be an opportunity to learn the routine with your own partner if you would prefer.



This class will probably run for 6-7 weeks.

As recently presented at the Super Ceroc Weekend in Christchurch!

Dancing is all about feeling the music and being moved. Let Emma help you to learn to let go and find that inner-dancer. Your enjoyment of dancing is bound to improve, no matter what level you are.



The best way to get the most out of this workshop is to throw yourself into it!



Dinner out in Town

After the workshop, we thought we'd head into town for dinner. The restaurant is yet to be confirmed as this will depend on numbers. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us for dinner.



A Blues Party

Time: 8pm – 11.30

Cost: $10 per person or $5 plus a supper plate.

BYO drink and vessel to drink it out of!



The Blues theme can mean anything you want it to – you can wear an item of blue clothing or let your imagination run wild and go to town with a full blown costume: you could be a Blues Brother, a Blueberry(!?!), a Blues Singer – we could always give you a mic! Whatever takes your fancy!



There'll be a wee prize for the best dressed – your choice of chocolates or wine.



After the party I'm sure there will be a few hard core dancers heading up to the Sky City Casino for a bit more dancing!



ACCOMMODATION: for those of you who live outside of Queenstown, Pinewood Lodge is a backpackers that has a range of accommodation and is very reasonable. It's not far from the venue and town centre – all easy walk. Their number is 03 442 8273. Or you could try the Holiday Park as it is also within walking distance and has small apartments – 03 442 7252. Or there are many more places; you could always consult the Destination Queenstown website www.queenstown-nz.co.nz .

QT's usual dance night is the 4th Friday of the Month – as we are dancing on the Saturday night this is not officially happening this month, however, it is a free world so if you are really keen there is always a muso playing up at Sky City Casino get up there and dance!

Rebekah and Jimmy have kindly invited Ceroc Dancers to attend their:

Beginner to Intro-Mediate Moving–Up Workshop – Saturday the 2nd of June 3.00pm – 5.30pm

Where: St John's Church Hall, cnr Wright St and Highgate, Roslyn.

This workshop will briefly cover the core beginner moves that you need to know at intro-mediate level, details on leading and following, arm tension, floor craft, spinning, being aware of other people on the dance floor and an introduction to the basic intermediate moves that form the core of our intro-mediate routines. This will include an introduction to our basic "dip" to help make learning these moves fun and safe in a normal class situation.



If you are considering attending Intro-mediate classes then this workshop should not be missed!



The intro-mediate and intermediate classes move faster than the beginner class and cover six moves instead of four. Knowing the basics well will enable you to learn the more technical intermediate moves faster and in turn allow you to dance them safer and with a lot more enjoyment.



New Ceroc Beginners DVD is now available!



We have had several requests for a Ceroc Beginners DVD. Well now we have one! Ceroc NZ has produced a DVD that is available through the Ceroc braches nationwide and available online at www.dancedvds.co.nz . The DVD covers 21 beginner moves, 6 routines, some technique tips about topics such as the handhold, posture and footwork, and also a small section of freestyle so that you can show your friends what Ceroc is all about.

A reminder that Ceroc Dunedin is now running classes on Monday nights at the St John's Church Hall in Roslyn (cnr Wright Street and Highgate).



The Monday night timetable is:



Intermediate – Plus: 7.00pm – 8.00pm

Freestyle dance time: 8.00pm – 8.30pm

Beginner Class: 8.30pm – 9.30pm

Freestyle dance time: 9.30pm – 10.00pm



The New Thursday night Timetable is:



Beginners: 6.00pm – 7.00pm
