Ceroc News Letter - Free classes tonight at St John's Church Hall Roslyn!
Hi Everyone,
The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 2-3 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide.
We are launching our Monday night classes at the St John's Church Hall TONIGHT! To welcome everyone along to our new classes' we would like to offer FREE ENTRY to everyone attending our opening night tonight.
The Monday night timetable is:
Intermediate – Plus: 7.00pm – 8.00pm
Freestyle dance time: 8.00pm – 8.30pm
Beginner Class: 8.30pm – 9.30pm
Freestyle dance time: 9.30pm – 10.00pm
The first class is Intermediate – Plus, it is open to those dancers that have attended intermediate-Plus in the past or experienced Intermediate dancers that are looking to move up to the next level. Please note if you have NOT previously attended Intermediate plus classes, then you will need to see John to get approval to attend this class. We would like to keep this class safe and fun for everyone and so a sound intermediate skill base is needed before attending this Intermediate – Plus class.
The second class is Beginners and is open to everyone including first time beginners. It will follow our usual Beginner class format.
A reminder that the classes run through the Otago Uni Clubs and Societies, begin this Tuesday night. The first beginner class is from 4.45 – 5.45 (although at the moment we may have to drop this class as numbers are very low). The second beginner class is from 6.00pm – 7.00pm and there are only a few places left in this class.
The Thursday night timetable will also change slightly. The beginner class remains the same, 6.00pm – 7.00pm , but the Intermediate class will not start until 8.00pm allowing an hour of freestyle dance time immediately following the Beginners class.
We hope these new times work for you all, and apologize if they cause any inconvenience.
We will be starting our ' Angel Street' routine class on Tuesday the 13th of March at Mojo's 219 Leith St from 8.30pm – 10.00pm . If you are interested in learning this fun Intermediate routine, please let either Monique or John know. We would prefer you to learn the routine 'With' a partner, however if you do not have a partner please let us know, we may teach it as a rotating partner class.
If you have learnt the Angel Street and/or Fever routine and you would like to perform it again, we have been invited to perform at the Museum on Saturday the 24th of March. We will have a practice session this coming Tuesday night from 8.30pm – 10.00pm at Mojo's 219 Leith St. Please let us know if you are interested in this performance.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Masquerade Ball at Larnach Castle. Everyone that I spoke to had a fantastic night. We have found a few ways that it could be improved for next year! Photos will soon be on the Blog, if you have any photos you would like to place on the Blog, please email them to Katie Bennett at: ktdoll@gmail.com
There are many other events being planned throughout the country including the NZ International Ceroc Champs in May, registrations are flooding in for this bi-annual event. A bit closer to home we have the Super Ceroc Weekend in Christchurch in April (details below!), yet another road trip to look forward to! New Class Timetable (covered in the intro quite well)
Monday night classes will start on Monday the 5th of March at the St John's Church Hall on the corner of Wright St and Highgate in Roslyn.
The night will begin with an Intermediate Plus class from 7.00pm – 8.00pm, freestyle from 8.00pm – 8.30pm and a beginner class from 8.30pm – 9.30pm finishing with freestyle through until 10.00pm.
To celebrate the launch of our third regular night of Ceroc here in Dunedin we are inviting everyone to attend this opening night FREE of charge!
Please note, however, that if you have not attended an Intermediate Plus class in the past, you will need to talk to John to ensure you are at an appropriate level to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone in the class. The moves taught in this class will be Intermediate moves, but there will be some challenging move combinations, drops and close moves taught, but mainly we will be focusing on styling and improving your ability to lead and follow through differing music speeds and genres. If you have any questions about the content of this class, please ask me (John ). The beginner class is naturally open to everyone.
The timetable for Thursday will also change slightly. Beginners will remain the same from 6.00pm – 7.00pm, however, the Intermediate class will move slightly later and begin at 8.00pm and run through until 9.00pm allowing the beginners an hour of freestyle time after their class to practice and dance as well as giving the intermediates a chance to warm up before their class. There will then be an hour of freestyle time from 9.00pm – 10.00pm to finish the night off. The Thursday Intermediate class will be a solid intermediate covering a diverse range of moves and combinations.
The Wednesday Intro-mediate class from 5.45pm – 6.45pm is designed as a step between beginners and Intermediate. The combinations are simpler and we limit the dips to basic seducers and laybacks. The Wednesday night timetable remains the same.
Please ask John or Monique if you have any questions about whether this is the class for you. We do recommend that you do the Beginner to Intro-mediate Moving Up Workshop before starting in this class.

Workshop 6: Go with the Flow
Dancing isn't just about the moves, it's about the right moves at the right time. You can't force it, but you can learn it. Adam is a brilliant, fun teacher and awesome dancer. This workshop will explore an essential dimension of dancing that pulls all the ingredients together to make your movements flow, connect with your partner and blend with the music.
When: Sunday 22 April, 10am – 12pm
Level: Intermediate
Instructor: Adam Nathanson
Venue: Caledonian Hall, 135 Kilmore St
Description: Adam will draw on his extensive dance experience to teach you how to select appropriate movements, develop your own moves, and create a seamless progression in your dancing. This is the next step beyond simply learning and remembering moves, this is true dancing..

Quote for the week
"Dancers aren't made of their technique, but their passion."
~anon
The language of movement requires no words - neither for its expression, nor for its understanding.
Without uttering a syllable, the vocabulary of dance speaks directly to the senses, seducing the heart and securing the soul.
