Ceroc News and Events January 16th 2007

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back to Ceroc for a brand new and exciting year. I hope you have all had a fun and relaxing break, I know I have. We have lots of fantastic events and classes lined up for this coming year, plenty of reasons to dust off those shoes and practice those wonderful words "would you like to dance?"

The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 3-4 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide.

I would firstly like to thank all those that came along to support our open air class in the Octagon on New Years Eve. The rain held off and the small but enthusiastic crowd enjoyed some great dancing and a fun class. It was very exciting to get the opportunity to dance on centre stage in front of so many people as part of the carnival concert on the run up to mid-night. A big thank you to Dale and Peter, Brent and Donna for your participation and wonderful performance to the music of the Oxo Cuban Big Band.

Now for this year! Classes will resume this week starting with a University Clubs and Societies beginner class TONIGHT (Tuesday) at Mojo's, 219 Lieth Street from 6.00pm – 7.00pm. General classes resume on Wednesday the 17th and Thursday the 18 th of January at the Burns Hall. These will follow the same timetable as last year.

On the 27th of January, less than two weeks away, we have our first major dance party to celebrate the opening of Ceroc Invercargill. I have had a great response from those interested in a road trip from Dunedin to Invercargill on the 27 th. Please see below for details, but this is shaping up to be a trip not to be missed! Regular Ceroc classes will begin in Invercargill the following Friday night, the 2nd of February, at the Masonic Lodge Hall, Forth St. We are also trying to organize a Saturday morning class at the YMCA. See below for details. The following night, the 3 rd of February, will be our first Saturday of the month Dunedin Dance party at the St Johns church hall in Roslyn. The theme will be "Summer Fun" I am sure we can all remember what a "HOT" summer can be like!!

Then of course we have our 4th Birthday Bash, a Masquerade Ball at Larnach Castle on the 24th of February 2007! More details of this great event are below. The tickets will be available at classes this week. Interest has been high for these, so get in quick!

I have confirmed a venue for classes to start on a weekly basis on Monday nights. This will provide a great option for those that cannot make a Ceroc class on Wednesday or Thursday, or perhaps just another fix for the passionate Ceroc Dance addict!! More details will follow regarding timetables and start dates.

There are many other events being planned throughout the country including the NZ International Ceroc Champs in May that have been launched this week. Details will be at class or visit www.ceroc.co.nz/champs for details. A bit closer to home we have the launch of Ceroc Canterbury Plains and the Super Ceroc Weekend in Christchurch in April, yet another road trip to look forward to! All this on top of exciting classes, workshops and demonstration routines right here in Dunedin.

A reminder that Ceroc Dunedin now has its own Blog, check it out at http://cerocdunedin.blogspot.com Katie has updated the Blog with some great photos of the Hanmer weekend, the Uniform dance party, Taieri Gorge railway trip, Luke's farewell and our awesome Christmas party to name a few! Some of the older photos can be accessed through the archive menu on the right hand side of the Blog.

We are looking forward to seeing you all again very soon!

Larnach Castle

Larnach Castle was built from 1871, a neo gothic colonial showplace, a dream home for William Larnach's beloved wife Eliza. No expense was spared in creating this beautiful building and the finest materials and craftsmen from all over the world were employed to decorate this wonderful Victorian Castle.

Larnach Castle is an award winning attraction and the Larnach Castle Gardens one of New Zealand's top gardens , awarded a "Garden of National Significance" rating by the New Zealand Gardens Trust. The beautiful gardens offer many gorgeous places to take photographs. A splendid memory of the evening is a photograph of all the guests on the front steps of Larnach Castle.

The historic Ballroom was built for Larnach's favourite daughter Kate's 21 st birthday; this room is spectacular and has a fantastic polished timber floor.

Ceroc Dunedin Fees, along with Christchurch, are still the cheapest in the country!

Ceroc is still one of the best 'value for money' evening activities available. $10.00 does not buy a lot of entertainment nowadays. Our nightly fee is FOR THE NIGHT, not per class, which means you can do as many classes in a night (that you qualify for) and enjoy the freestyle dance time for the one low price of $10.00 for general or $8.00 for a student. A reminder that as well as our great value casual fees, Ceroc also offers 10 night and 40 night multi-trip tickets to extend your savings even further. They are:

General 10 trip - $90.00
General 40 trip - $300.00
Student 10 trip - $70.00
Student 40 trip - $240.00

We are happy for a couple to share a card, and remember that along with our gift vouchers, these multi-trip cards make fantastic gifts.

Introduce a friend to Ceroc and you both receive a %50 off voucher.

If you introduce a friend to Ceroc, you will BOTH receive a %50 off voucher for your next Ceroc night. Be with your friend when they register at the front desk on their first night to receive your voucher.
