Ceroc Dunedin News and Events November 15

Hi Everyone,

The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 3-4 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide.

There are so many events to mention in the news letter today that I will keep the intro short!!

Congratulations to Paul and Bronwyn who were married on Saturday. A few of us were lucky enough to be invited along to help them celebrate. Great to see two Ceroc dancers forming the perfect partnership!

I would like to thank everyone that has helped to pack up and clean the hall after our dance parties. This is VERY MUCH appreciated and as they say, many hands make light work. Thank you all again.

Hi everyone, great turn out to our November dance party. There were some great costumes for the theme 'Uniforms'. We had firemen, nurses, doctors, police officers, and the army, we were well covered in case of any emergency. We said farewell to two of our male dancers that night, Luke and Chris, by getting every girl to dance with them and I am sure they enjoyed that, good luck guys for the future.

We are expected to arrive back at the Dunedin railway station at around 1.30am, we should have a great time.

There will be a handout information sheet for everyone to pick up at class this week that will detail all the rules and guidelines for the train trip with regard to alcohol.

Sunday:

Brunch at Nova in the Octagon

This is a really nice way to farewell our visiting dancers from Christchurch and Central Otago.

Time: 10.30am

Can people please let me know if they are going to come along so I can get an idea of numbers, thanks.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and lots of dancing.

Monthly Dance:

There is no monthly dance on the first Saturday of December, the 2nd, due to our HUGE Christmas Party on the 16th.

Things coming up:

Christmas Party:

When: 16th December

Where: Burns Hall behind First Church of Otago

Theme: 'White Christmas'

Fee: $10 or $5 with a plate (one plate between two people is fine)

We are going to have a fantastic Christmas tree at the party, and no tree is complete without presents, so in keeping with the theme we are going to have a secret Santa and would like everyone to bring along a present to the value of $5.00 (wrapped) that will be suitable for either a male or a female. Later in the night we will all have a chance to receive one of these fun gifts.

This year we are also inviting people to bring along a wrapped present suitable for a child (labeled boy or girl). These will be placed separately under the tree and then donated along with the tree, to a Dunedin Children's charity for Christmas. Lets help make a child's Christmas a little better this year.

Thanks to John Munro for supplying the Christmas tree from his Christmas tree plantation in Kaikorai Valley. For those looking for a 'Real Tree' this year, you will not find better than the standard or 'designer' trees that John has for sale. The plantation is opposite Couplands Bakery, lower Kaikorai Valley . The trees are available from this weekend.

Ceroc class and party on New Years Eve in the Octagon – see below for details

Our next big event is a Masquerade Ball to celebrate the 4th Birthday of Ceroc in Dunedin. This will be on Saturday the 24th February 2007. It is going to be at the historic Larnach Castle. This should be another great weekend to look forward to. More about this party as details come to hand. Put the date in your dairy NOW!!!

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and a safe New Year. Keep dancing and having fun.

Huge Ceroc Class and festival party in Dunedin's Octagon on New Years Eve!!

Ceroc has been invited by the organizers of the Dunedin New Years Festival, to teach a beginner Ceroc class in the Octagon to a very energetic lunchtime crowd on New Years Eve. The class will be from 1.30pm – 2.30pm. It is estimated that there will be several thousand people in the Octagon at that time (weather permitting). We would like to invite as many Ceroc dancers as possible to come along to the class and help guide the chaos and enjoy one of the largest Ceroc classes New Zealand has ever seen!!

The festival will continue into the evening, counting down to midnight, with music, dancing, demonstrations and performances from many artists on the huge stage.

If you are planning on being in Dunedin for New Years, then you won't want to miss this fantastic night!!

Quote for the week

The language of movement requires no words - neither for its expression, nor for its understanding.

Without uttering a syllable, the vocabulary of dance speaks directly to the senses, seducing the heart and securing the soul.
