September Newsletter
Hi Everyone,
The Ceroc Dunedin newsletter comes out every 3-4 weeks and keeps you all up to date with the social events and workshops that are being planned here in Dunedin and in other towns throughout NZ. We also include interesting stories and some great dance movement advice from teachers and dancers nationwide.
It has been a big month at Ceroc with lots of fantastic social and dance events happening to keep everyone busy. A very dedicated group did a fantastic job of learning and performing the new “Fever” routine at the Milton area Ball. We received some fantastic feedback form the locals and the press alike. There were some great photos in the Clutha Leader, well done to all involved.
The trip to Hanmer Springs went very well with everyone enjoying the opportunity to meet lots of fellow Cerocers and enjoy everything that Hanmer has to offer. On the Sunday night we all attended the “Burn the Floor - Floorplay” stage show in the Christchurch town hall. There were over 90 Ceroc dancers there from all over the south Island in the audience, to watch 16 of the worlds’ best dancers performing Ballroom variations, Salsa and Jive. The show was a sell out and was truly inspirational; the level of dancing was astonishing!! I can’t wait for the DVD to be released!!
If you have some “good” photos from either of these events, please let us know and we will put them on the Blog.
A special dance party is being planned for this coming Saturday night the 16th of September. It will be a combination event with Eldon Clifton supplying the entertainment with “Shake The House” and some demonstrations from Salsa and Ceroc dancers. It will be at the old Wilson Bluestone Distillery Building at Willowbank in North Dunedin.
Two great workshops are also planned for this Saturday, our very popular beginner to intermediate moving up workshop and an intermediate “Combination New Moves and Style” workshop.
Please take note that Thursday classes will be held at the St Johns Church hall on the corner of Wright st & Highgate in Roslyn for the next 4 weeks.
Plans are well underway for the Taieri Gorge Railway Christmas Barn dance trip. Donna has booked 50 seats on this very popular event. More details on this soon.

Workshop 1: Beginner to Intermediate – Moving Up Workshop.
2 hours – 12.30pm to 2.30pm
Fee $20.00
To help everyone to make the most of their intermediate experience, we will be running a Beginner to Intermediate “moving up” workshop on Saturday 16th of September.
The workshop will briefly cover the core beginner moves that you need to know at intermediate level, details on leading and following, arm tension, floor craft and being aware of other people on the dance floor and an introduction to the basic intermediate moves that form the core of our intermediate routines.
If you are considering attending Intermediate classes then this workshop should not be missed!
The intermediate class moves faster than the beginner class and covers six moves instead of four. Knowing the basics well will enable you to learn the more technical intermediate moves faster and in turn allow you to dance them safer and with a lot more enjoyment.
The hall will be open from 12.15pm to allow everyone to warm up before the class and there will be ½ hour after the class to practice or ask questions.
Please Note
To help keep the men / lady ratio even, we are asking that you register for this workshop. Forms will be available at class, if you cannot make class before next weekend, please email, phone or text me on (021) 313 043 to secure your place.
Workshop 2: Intermediate Combination Moves and Style
Intermediate and above. Some simple new moves to add style to your dancing and a stylish new dip combination.
2 hours – 3.00pm to 5.00pm
Fee $20.00
The fee for both workshops is $30.00
Please Note
To help keep the men / lady ratio even, we are asking that you register for this workshop. Forms will be available at class, if you cannot make class before next weekend, please email, phone or text me on (021) 313 043 to secure your place.
These workshops are always well attended by females, this is a great opportunity for intermediate guys to add some style and flare to your free styling!! Help to keep our numbers even so you can all get the most out of this workshop.
“Fever” New Choreographed Demonstration Routine
We have had a great response from the ladies regarding learning the new demonstration routine, but not so many guys. Thank you to everyone for your interest in learning the new routine. We have chosen the track 'Fever' performed by Elvis Presley as the music for this routine. This is a great piece of music and will make for a fun routine.
This routine is set at beginner level and is made up of primarily beginner moves. You will need to have done some beginner classes and understand the basic Ceroc movements. There will be some small variations that will be a little challenging but it will be a fun routine. That does not mean it will be boring for intermediates, this will be a fantastic opportunity to sharpen your skills and really put some style into your dancing.
We need you to register with a partner, so please try to organize a partner before the practice.
We will be running classes on Monday nights and Friday nights. You can attend either night, or both. The same moves will be repeated in the Friday class as was taught in the Monday class. Each week we will move on to the next section of the routine.
Our first meeting will be Monday 11th of September from 6.00pm - 7pm in the main dance studio, downstairs in Clubs and Soc’s 84 Albany St.
The Friday class is from 5.30 – 6.30 in Mojo’s Hall 219 Leith Street.
Any questions, please email myself or Monique or phone me on 021 313 043.
