Welcome to Ceroc Dunedin

Welcome to our new (temporary) site. This is where you can find online copies of the newsletters and pictures of various events until our real site is up and running. Below is a copy of the latest newsletter.

Hi Everyone,
A special issue of the news letter to remind you all of the huge weekend of Ceroc that is planned for this coming weekend right here in Dunedin!

Saturday Night Dance Party

Due to the extra visitors in Dunedin for the workshop on Sunday, we will be having a dance party on Saturday night at the St Johns Church Hall, Roslyn - entry up drive way on corner of 373 Highgate, the hall is behind the church at the end of drive (some parking inside by hall).

There is no theme for this party, just great dancing. It will be an awesome opportunity to welcome our guests into town and enjoy some new people to dance with J.

When? Saturday 17th June, 8.00pm – 12.00ish

Venue: St Johns Church Hall, Roslyn

Cost - $5.00 covers supper and a night of great dancing.

Workshop – Sunday 18th June in Dunedin: Blues / Musicality, This fantastic workshop is being taught by a visiting UK instructor: Steve Lampert with some fantastic assistance from Deb Robinson from Christchurch.

Steve Lampert, a teacher from the UK (and one of Deb’s previous competition partners) is doing a tour of Australia and NZ. Steve’s first NZ destination is Christchurch where he will be teaching two workshops on Saturday, June 17, he will then be whisked down to Dunedin for his workshop on Sunday the 18th of June from 2.00pm – 4.30pm.

Blues and Musicality workshop (2.5 hrs)

Steve will be teaching an introduction to Blues. He will start with some musical interpretation for blues music. Then he will be looking at the basic patterns and variations, followed by a routine, gradually working through a variety of blues music, (which is quite slow), finishing up with a short choreographed routine demonstrating the "attitude" and musicality of Blues.

This workshop will be suitable for Intermediate or Advanced dancers who are looking for a new style of dancing that can be incorporated into Ceroc. (Longer standing Beginners - as long as you can freestyle I’m happy for you to do this workshop – if in doubt please ask me J)

Blues is very popular in the UK and has helped Cerocers to diversify away from the main ‘pop’ style. Blues dancing generally allows for more interpretation and improvisation than most partner dancing, combined with plenty of musicality, “attitude” and a few close moves.

When? Sunday 18th June, 2.00pm – 4.30pm

Venue: South Dunedin Community Hall, King Edward Street, South Dunedin ( the Saxman venue).

Fee: 30.00

Please Note
To help keep the men / lady ratio even, we are asking that you register for this workshop. Forms will be available at class, if you cannot make class before next weekend, please email, phone or text me on (021) 313 043 to secure your place.

Tea Dance
We have booked the hall for an extra few hours on Sunday afternoon so that we have an opportunity to practice some of the great new style that we have learned in the workshop. It is also a fantastic way to farewell our visitors who will be heading home.

There will be complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits available (if you would like to bring a plate of something a little more interesting J please feel welcome!)

When? Sunday 18th June, 5.00pm – 8.00pm

Venue: South Dunedin Community Hall, King Edward Street, South Dunedin ( the Saxman venue).

Fee: 5.00 (free for everyone who attends the workshop, or brings a plate).
